My style of teaching is different than your “typical” yoga class. I work on improving mobility, strength and stability. Most first responders have tight hips, hamstrings and instability in shoulders, wrists and ankles. I work to help the first responders find relief from feeling tightness and soreness in areas of the body by strengthening the supporting muscles through yoga postures. We work on their breathing and finding a slow and steady breath while challenging them in postures. I ask first responders to do things some of them have never done before, but I know the more they participate they see improvement in their mobility, strength and stability. Occasionally we have fun in class and I’ve been known to make a whole class crack up laughing.
